Rhonda has been in the industry for over 40 years and is an official educator for Wella color charm and Clairol professional. In this class, she shared her expertise about Clairol Kaleidocolors Clear Ice, and the new shimmer lights products, the leave-in styling treatment, the deep conditioning mask, and the thermal spray. Kaleidocolors Clear Ice is perfect for anyone who’s looking to get great results, in just a few minutes, and just a few steps!
This product lightens and tones in just one step, offering up to 6 levels of lift with no brassy results. Rhonda recommends following manufacturer instructions and using a 2:1 ratio of developer to lightener. She mixed 2 ounces of Clairol Pure White and 1 scoop of Kaleidocolors clear ice.
It’s important to note that all Kaleidocolors lighteners are off the scalp lighteners and should not be placed directly on skin. It’s a clay-based lightener, allowing you to paint the color on and leave it with no worries of color bleeding. In addition, the clay base protects the hair from damage that traditional bleach would cause.
For the sun kissed look she wanted to create, she placed about 7 foils using thin slice method around the perimeter of the crown. She took sections in a forward diagonal pattern to create the illusion of natural movement. In the front and top sections, she hand painted balayage for a beautiful and natural glow.
After allowing color to process about 15 minutes, she rinsed out the color. Now it’s time to introduce our new friends!
The Mask: Rhonda likes to use the mask immediately after lightening because the hair is very porous right after lightening. While normally she would leave it on about 10-15 minutes, because the hair is so porous at this moment in the process, it only needs about 5 minutes. Following the mask, she uses the shimmer lights color depositing shampoo, to help eliminate any residual brassiness.
Pro Tip: When using the mask as a treatment on its own, Rhonda recommends pairing it with a steamer treatment. Another great way to elevate your services!
Leave-In Styling Crème: Following the mask, and shampoo, Rhonda uses the leave-in styling crème to strengthen the violet tones and assist in detangling and moisturizing. She rakes it through the wet hair with her fingers for even application.

That’s where we bring in the Thermal Spray. No matter how you choose to style your client, when using heat, you’ll want to spray this on evenly to protect from heat damage. It offers a wonderful shine, pleasant scent and great protection for your client.
